Gaming News: PS4 Gets One of Vita's Best Games in September for $40

Tearaway Unfolded, the PlayStation 4 version of PlayStation Vita game Tearaway, will be out on September 8 in North America for $40.
Unfolded was announced last year, but today's announcement is the first we've heard of a release date, and it confirms that it won't be priced any higher than the original Vita version. This is an expanded and improved version of that game; it still features the novel construction-paper world of the game, and adds in new areas and some fairly extensive uses for the PS4's DualShock 4.

Those who preorder will be entitled to the Crafted Edition of the game, essentially a Day One version that includes a variety of bonus goodies. These include God of War andJourney costumes, custom decorations themed around various games (God of War,InfamousThe Last of UsKillzoneThe Order: 1886No Man's SkyGravity Rush, andLemmings), and a soundtrack.

Tearaway may not be the only acclaimed Vita game coming to PS4--Gravity Rush is alsorumored to be on the way.
For more on Tearaway, check out our preview of Unfolded--which goes into detail on its impressive DualShock 4 functionality--and ourreview of the Vita original.

Gaming News: PS4's Ratchet & Clank Runs at 1080p/30fps, Is About 10-12 Hours Long

Following yesterday's information blowout on the upcoming Ratchet & Clank game for PlayStation 4, Sony has now confirmed resolution, frame rate, pricing, and other details for the gorgeous-looking game.

As you might have guessed, the new Ratchet & Clank runs at 1080p; frame rate is 30fps. These details were confirmed by developer Insomniac Games community lead James Stevenson.

"Our goal was to match or exceed the fidelity of CG animated movies," he said on the PlayStation Blog. "When we first started we realized that was actually possible with PS4. Pretty exciting."

The new Ratchet & Clank game for PS4 will launch in spring 2016 alongside a full-length animated movie based on the series. Both the game and the movie were previously expected to launch in 2015, but wererecently delayed. For more on the movie, check out its star-studded voice cast.

Stevenson also confirmed that, as suspected, the new Ratchet & Clank game will cost $40, not $60.

In addition, Stevenson clarified that the new Ratchet & Clank is "way bigger" than the most recent release,Into the Nexus for PlayStation 3, and should offer about 10-12 hours of gameplay. Of course, this is just an estimation, and Stevenson stresses that the game will also offer upgrades and trophies to unlock.

In addition to the much-improved visuals, Ratchet & Clank will feature new planets, bosses, and weapons, as well as a modernized control scheme. These weapons consist of both brand-new weapons and some returning from the Ratchet & Clank Futuregames, such as the Groovitron that forces nearby characters to dance. Also making a return here is the Bouncer weapon from Going Commando, but you'll need to preorder the game in order to get your hands on that.

Expect to hear much more about the game as we approach E3 next week.

Gaming News: Shadow Warrior 2 E3 Reveal Teased

Shadow Warrior 2 is in development, publisher Devolver Digital has confirmed.

Facebook post on the Shadow Warrior page links to a website with the logo for the sequel. The post also asks "Who wants more Wang?," as a cheeky puerile reference to the first game's protagonist.

The post also confirms the sequel will once again be developed by Flying Wild Hog. The timing of the tease suggests the game will be more fully revealed at E3 2015.

In our Shadow Warrior review we awarded the game a 7/10.

"If you're going to remake a game known for its tacky humor, this is the way to do it," said our reviewer. "The crassness is here, but it's merely seasoning in a colorful old-school first-person shooter that allows excitement to build organically from the way its systems interact."

"If you saw Duke Nukem's 2011 appearance as a personal slight, you'll be glad to know that Lo Wang still stands tall and proud."

The game was also praised for its high-energy, colorful shooting action, great diversity of weapons, with lots of reasons to use them all, and robust upgrade system."

Gaming News: Before Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, a Comic Will Fill in the Backstory

Before the new Mirror's Edge launches, Electronic Arts will release a new six-issue comic series that explores the backstory of Faith, the protagonist of the original game and the upcoming Mirror's Edge: Catalyst.

Dark Horse Comics today announced the new limited series, titled Mirror's Edge: Exordium. Exordium refers to an introduction to something, and that's precisely what these comics will serve as for newcomers to the series. Readers will be provided with "special insight into the origin of Faith" in the comics as she transforms "from a careless young woman to the heroine who opens the eyes of the city."

The series is being created by a team of employees at DICE, the developer of the Battlefield and Mirror's Edge games. Narrative director Christofer Emgard will write the comics, while art will be handled by Mattias Haggstrom, Robert Sammelin, Henrik Sahlström, Erik Persson, and Emgard.

Dark Horse and EA had no further details on Exordium's contents to share, though we did get a look at the cover of the first issue, which you can see above. The 32-page Exordium #1 will go on sale on September 9 for $4.

DICE has emphasized that Catalyst is not a sequel to the original Mirror's Edge, though it's unclear what that distinction actually means for the game. Despite confirmation of its existence, we've still yet to see the game itself, though it's expected to be shown at E3 next week before its release in the first quarter of 2016.

Gaming News: Street Fighter 5 V-Trigger and V-Skill Mechanics Detailed, March Release Date Listed

Street Fighter V will be released in March 2016 and feature two new mechanics called V-Skill and V-Trigger.

Reporting information featured in UK film, game, and culture magazine Shortlist, fighting game websiteEventhubs has states "Street Fighter V will be released in March 2016 on PS4 and PC."

Although Capcom has not yet officially announced aStreet Fighter V release date, in its last earnings report it pointed to a broad "current fiscal year" period, which ends March 31, 2016.

This is the second time a spring 2016 release windowhas been indicated.

Continuing, the magazine explains new mechanics called "V-Trigger" and "V-Skill."

"[V-Trigger is] a special move unique to each character that can turn the tide of a fight," the magazine says. "And you'll need it. You can only unleash these after you've filled the V-Gauge, and you do that by taking damage."

Continuing, the publication breaks down another mechanic called "V-Skill," which is "a defensive move that can be used during the fight."

"Ryu's allows him to parry incoming attacks with ease. M. Bison's can reflect projectiles back at his opponent."

Two new stages, China and London's King's Cross train station, are also mentioned.

Street Fighter V was announced in December as a PS4 and PC exclusive. Capcom previously announced that it plans to run a public beta test that it claims will be the "largest and most ambitious online beta program in franchise history."

A date for the beta hasn't been shared, but we do know you can guarantee yourself access by pre-ordering the game.

Gaming News: Actually, Halo 5's Campaign Co-Op Does Require Xbox Live Gold

As it turns out, you will need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play Halo 5: Guardians' online co-op, Microsoft clarified this afternoon, following aninitial report yesterday that said this would not be the case. That report was based on an interview that 343 Industries studio head Josh Holmes gave to Game Informer.

He now says in a statement that he got it wrong.

"I misspoke during the interview when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account," Holmes said. "Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play."

Holmes went on to apologize to fans for the mistake and any confusion it caused. He also pointed out that Halo 5 will come with a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial to allow Silver account members to try online co-op
.
Halo 5 will not offer local split-screen co-op, meaning the only way to play with friends online
.
We're expecting more Halo 5 news at E3 next week, including the first details on an "epic" multiplayer mode, but for now, check out some recent stories below.
